Scotland, in Great Britain, is a fantastic destination to have a short break featuring a profuse selection of tourist attractions including some of the most interesting museums and galleries in the whole of the British Isles, perfect countryside for hill-walkers, mountain climbers, ramblers, hikers and the likes together with a massive selection of country houses, historical buildings, fortified houses and castles. In the following article I discuss the island of Arran and describe why this is such a great place to take a vacation.
The Isle of Arran is the seventh largest Scottish island and although the island is frequently referred to as being in the Hebrides it is actually in the Firth of Clyde further south. Because the island’s main industry is tourism you will not find it surprising that there is an incredible number of hotels on the Isle of Arran. Even though most tourists arrive at the island in order to enjoy the breathtaking countryside the island also features a reasonable selection of tourist attractions including; Kildonan Castle, Brodick Castle Gardens and Country Park, Arran Transport Museum and Arran Heritage Museum.
There are a few towns and villages, the biggest is Brodick, the site of the ferry terminal where you can sail to Ardrossan in North Ayrshire. Lamlash, located 4 miles south of Brodick, is the site where you can grab a boat to Holy Island.
Lochranza is largest settlement in the north of the island and will find the site of the ferry terminal where you can sail to Claonaig on the Scottish mainland. It is important to know that the ferry only runs in the summer. The village is set in a wide, and incredibly picturesque, bay with the ruins of Lochranza Castle being the most popular visitor attraction.
Blackwaterfoot is the biggest village on the western coast of Arran. The village has a pub, a tiny harbour, a garage and petrol (gas) station. Other villages worth visiting are; Whiting Bay (south of Brodick), Catacol (in the north), Corrie (north of Brodick), Kilmory (south coast) and last but not least Pirnmill home to the most beautiful beach on the island.
If you are planning a vacation in Scotland and you are searching for Isle of Arran Hotels please take a look at our listings of Arran bed & breakfast.

The country of Scotland is a good destination in which to take a short vacation. Scotland is suitable for an abundant selection of diverse vacations, with extensive areas of delightful countryside with valuable amounts of sites of outstanding natural beauty (perfect for hill-walkers, hikers, ramblers, mountain climbers and the likes). The nation also features some of the most popular visitor attractions, including, some of the finest museums and galleries in the whole of the UK, astonishing sites of beauty, stately homes, historical buildings, fortified houses and castles plus a great deal more. Below I examine Stranraer.
The town of Stranraer is located in Dumfries and Galloway in the south of Scotland, the town is known widely for it being the place where it is possible to catch the ferry over to Northern Ireland. Unfortunately the majority of people do not get to see some of the attractions in the surrounding countryside and the town itself. This is a bit of an enigma, if you arrive at the port, and reserve a room in a Stranraer bed & breakfast, a couple of days earlier you could get to see a couple of the attractions prior to embarking to Northern Ireland and the city of Belfast.
There are a couple of places to see in the port including the medieval town house known as the Castle of St John situated in the centre of town. St John’s was built in the year fifteen ten as a residence for Ninian Adair of Kilhurst (the Laird of Wigtownshire). The structure was renovated, during eighty eight/eighty nine, by Wigtown District Council who made it available to the public in 1990.
Another place to visit close to Stranraer is the gardens of Castle Kennedy. The castle acts as the centrepiece of the garden which are situatedon a hill between 2 lochs (it is important to know that access to the ruins is no longer allowed. The landscaped gardens extend across an area of 75 acres. If you would like it is possible to buy plants from the store which has reared them from seeds collected from the garden.
A further exquisite attraction worth seeing is Glenluce Abbey, about seven miles from Stranraer. Even though Glenluce Abbey is ruined (actually the most ruined of three of Cistercian monasteries found in the south westerly part of Scotland) it also has a superb fifteenth-century Chapter House. Other places worth visiting include, the Machars, the Mull of Galloway, Portpatrick and Port Logan.
If you are considering having a Scottish vacation you will be pleased to learn that there are a fair few Stranraer hotels. Please take a look at our extensive listings of Stranraer hotels and guest house accommodation.

The Outer Hebrides are a group of more than 400 islands located not too far off the Scottish north west coast. The isles of the Hebrides have been inhabited since the Mesolithic times and through their history the way of life and culture has been immensely influenced by numerous different races and today the culture of the Hebrideans is a blend of Scottish, English, Norse and Celtic influences. In general most folk speak in the Gaelic language and though many talk in English, it is most likely their 2nd language. In the past tours of the Outer Hebrides were only for those with deep pockets and those folk who could afford plenty of time. These days it is much, much to reach the Western Isles/Outer Hebrides, you can get there by ferry and car or fly to a number of places on the islands. Regrettably it is impossible to get all of the way by train although you can catch a train to the coast and then travel by coach for the remainder of the journey. Sometimes the only hiccup that can occur is sorting out accommodation especially if you are searching for accommodation for groups on the Isle of Harris which is frequently booked up a year in advance.
One of the main reasons people travel to the Outer Hebrides is that the the landscape and culture of the islands are dramatically unique. On the Isle of Harris you will discover some of the finest beaches in all of Scotland, and many folk believe the whole of the U.K. Every once in a while you will find a standing stone on the Isle of Harris but it is on Lewis that you will see the most incredible stone circle at Callanish not a huge distance from the town of Stornoway the only town in the Outer Hebrides. The stone circle at Calanais is said to be 2nd to only England’s Stonehenge.
Deciding whether to stay on Harris or Lewis is often difficult and increasing numbers of folk are choosing to spend a little time on each. Isle of Lewis bed & breakfast is commonly more plentiful than Isle of Harris accommodation, so you should try to book as early as possible.
Bed & breakfast accommodation in Stornoway is is far less problematic but to be certain ensure you book in advance. Nearly all accommodation in the Western Isles/Outer Hebrides is of a very high standard and the hospitality is legendary and the local folk friendly and helpful.
Besides the Isles of Lewis and Harris there are a small number of other islands that are very easy to visit. The most popular are the Uists, Eriskay and Barra and you will find a ferry which runs from the Isle of Harris to North Uist at Leverburgh on South Harris.

Perth, in Scotland, is also widely referred to being the ‘Gateway to the Highlands’. Located on the River Tay’s banks, Perth was, for centuries, the capital of Scotland and back in the medieval period the busy small town was known by local folk as Saint Johnstoun (St. John’s Town). The name of Perth, or, in Gaelic, Peairt, is derived from the Pictish word for a copse or wood. Nowadays this beautiful little market town is the perfect place as a base for a touring vacation with a supreme range of Perth bed and breakfast accommodation to choose from ranging from the bargain priced inn to the alarmingly highly priced top class luxury country mansion hotels and the likes with a great deal of charm andf character.
Whether you decide to stay for a single day or a couple of weeks you will very quickly see that there are a large number of things to keep you occupied in Perth and the surrounding countryside. attractions include; restaurants, historical attractions, sport and leisure pursuits and shopping and various other forms of entertainment. Once upon a time the town was a very busy port chiefly involved in the export of linen, bleached products, whisky and leather. Nowadays the tourism trade creates income and much appreciated jobs for the young folk who are keen to take jobs in the many hotels and guest houses in Perth and other related enterprises.
One element of Perth that is astoundingly challenging for any other location to trounce is the neighbouring countryside which is much more than simply delightful, words fail. Sporadically situated are countless interesting places to visit including fortified houses, historical buildings, castles and stately homes.
Just a short distance west of Perth is found the medieval structure of Huntingtower Castle. Situated in stunningly beautiful the castle has, over the centuries undergone numerous minor alterations and redevelopments. The castle was first built as 2 separate towers but built closely together.
Round about 3m away, from Perth, you will find the 16C Elcho Castle, which features the most glorious vistas across the River Tay. The castle can be dated back to the year 1570 when it’s construction was commissioned by the Wemyss family who kept it in their possession until the year 1929. The Castle is now a possession of Historic Scotland.
Probably the most well known attraction, near to Perth, is Scone Palace one of the finest historical Scottish country homes. Here folk are able to thoroughly explore the history of Scone Palace, the place where at one time, Scottish kings were crowned such as, Robert The Bruce (crowned in 1306).
As well as the tourist attractions mentioned above the town of Perth has countless more, which means that it is an excellent place for a vacation for you and your family. Tourist attractions and places, to see, found in Perth and the surrounding area include the following; Perth Ice Rink, Perthshire Visitor Centre, Kinnoull Hill, Branklyn Gardens and Bell’s Cherrybank Gardens.

Brisbane, also affectionately known as Brisvegas, is the capital city of Queensland Australia. It has international modern art exhibitions (of note is its Gallery of Modern Art) , many five star restaurants and world class shopping facilities.

Smaller providers offer one hour treatments of remedial or Swedish massage and tend to be cheaper. One of the more popular Brisbane massage and beauty services is the mobile day spa service. The foremost of these is Ripple Massage which provides the best Day Spas Brisbane.

Many people are choosing to take local vacations this coming year. For most of us the decision is to save cash but is this a wise choice or a dreadful error? Commonly the majority of us overlook the many local tourist attractions and yet they are frequently excellent and much better than those we see somewhere else. People living in the UK have a most incredible list of vacation destinations all of which have a huge selection of top class tourist attractions to visit. In this article I introduce the English city of York and York hotels.
The city of York is located in the far north of England and was, in the distant past, the capital city of northern England. In such an old city it will not be an enormous surprise to discover a massive selection of extremely medieval architecture, but you may not expect the awesome sight of the Gothic York Minster.
The first York Minster was a humble wood construction in which King Edwin of Northumbria was baptised in the seventh century. It wasn’t until the time of the Normans that the first substantial building made of stone appeared on the site. Built by the Norman Archbishop, Thomas of Bayeux it was enhanced by Archbishop Roger who constructed a north transept and a south transept. After many more alterations it was complete and consecrated in 1472. Inside has the largest medieval stained glass window in the world. York has other places to visit including; the National Railway Museum, the Jorvik Viking Centre, the Roman Bath Museum, Barley Hall, Fairfax House, York Dungeon and York Castle Museum.
Besides all of the amazing ancient and historic visitor attractions introduced above, York is a superb place to go out partying in or enjoy live entertainment. It that doesn’t excite you then alternatively you could spend the evening in a pub there are certainly plenty to choose from, including; The Royal Oak, The Snickleway Inn, Slug and Lettuce, the Old Star Inn and The Bluebell Inn, and, lastly, the Black Swan. Of all of them the Black Swan is questionably the best with a superb atmosphere and sometimes featuring live music.
Bed And Breakfast In York
As in most UK cities you will find a massive variety of York B&B accommodation ranging from cheap and cheerful guest houses to five star hotels. The Middlethorpe Hall hotel is a mere 2 miles from the city centre but provides superb accommodation with it’s own private gardens, gym, steam room and sauna, and it is also possible to get a massage. Other superb York hotels include; Marriott on Tadcaster Road, Hotel du Vin and Bistro, Parsonage Country House Hotel and Bishops at 135 Holgate Road and one of the finest guest houses is Crossways on Wigginto Road, or if you are looking for something different why not investigate Marmadukes Boutique Hotel.
