Uganda is a great destination. Though Africa as a whole is still underdeveloped in comparison to the west, Uganda has undergone massive changes and developments over the last ten years. Now tens of thousands of tourists base themselves in the capital while exploring the magnificence of this timeless land. Fortunately, there is a wide range of options when it comes to booking hotels in Kampala and the greater region.

Situated in the south of the country, Kampala is known for being one of the greenest cities in the whole of Africa. It is located in a wonderful spot surrounded by seven hills. Though originally settled many hundreds of years ago, today you will find a lively mix of old world charm, and modern development. You will not find the hustle and business too overwhelming as in many cities in this part of the world.

Now, a decade in to the twenty first century, tourism is a fundamental aspect of Uganda’s economy. Without the half a billion dollars that holiday makers spend in the country every year a lot more people would be in hardship and penury. What has allowed the tourism sector to become so significant is the range of options when it comes to choosing accommodation. Even international chains have a presence in the capital; for example you could book a room in the Grand Imperial, Sheraton Kampala, or the Holiday Express.

If your trip to Uganda will involve heading out of the capital that the lodgings available will be simpler but this does not mean a lack of quality. Even when on safari the lodges and camps that you stay at will provide you with luxury five star treatments. Today the options in Uganda can be compared favorably too many other destinations. Of course if you are on a tight shoe string then there is always the option of budget guesthouses and cheap lodges.

The city itself has a lot to offer. You should not just rush out in to the savannah and tropical forests. For example just ten minutes from the city centre are the Kasubi tombs. These are the spiritual centre of the traditional Buganda culture; they actually house deceased members of the royal family.

You should also fit in a visit to Africa’s only Bahai temple. You can easily stroll here in the warmth of the evening sun. It is a wonderful place to take in a sense of the culture and heritage.

It is no surprise that that people in Kampala and Uganda have become well known for their friendliness and hospitality. A trip to Kampala will leave you with only positive memories of the accommodation and staff.
