Poets and writers have gained inspiration and wonder from the mystery that Britain's old castles and monuments provide. Today, the spirit of Oxford Street and the West End theatre shows offer celebrity. All that Britain has to offer can be experienced once again in Bath – Britain’s favourite Spa town. Now join the real beauty of Britain’s history and merge it with something else entirely.

Shopping? No. An ideal way to spend a spa day would be at Bath - Britain's favourite spa town, where one can really relax and have a truly sensual experience. A truly luxurious spa day can once again be experienced in mineral rich Bath.

From the 17th century, numerous multitudes of people ventured to a quaint little town in England called Bath to enjoy its therapeutic hot mineral springs. Bath is without doubt one of Britain's most favoured towns amoung travellers and tourists. Bath shimmers in the sunlight, it's Georgian splendour rising majestically from the healing waters below.

During the 17th and 18th centuries Bath was awash with the nobility and monarchy of Europe who all flocked to the mineral rich waters hoping to experience their healing properties. In time, the nurturing waters could be employed for the purpose of nonexclusive baths. Hot springs and healing pools sprung up in abundance as Bath's fame spread far and wide.

Despite it's early Roman origins and centuries of fame and healing success, the springs eventually closed their doors in 1978 due to the risk of potential 'health hazards'. Bath has always, and continues to be, a source of fascination and awe from visitors from all over the world.

Bath is now open again for business. Finally in 2006 a restoration project got underway which not only saw the creation of completely new spa houses but also the restoration of former bathhouses of the 18th century. The fluid springs stream byway of the Hetling, Cross, and King springs cumulatively. Put together, they supply close to 1 million liters of water daily at a temperature of 45 degree Celsius.

The waters of Bath can now be enjoyed again in a pristine, modern day setting. The fluid springs flow through the Hetling, Cross, and King springs. Today, this gift from nature can be enjoyed by all people.

Maybe spa breaks should be even more holistic and less ecliptic

When you think of a spa break, you might even think of walking around a beautifully therapeutic environment, with waterfalls and singing tropical birds. You might imagine being wrapped in a huge fluffy dressing gown, that feels like it have been woven by angels. Why? Because a Spa is very much about having your body pampered by experts intent on making sure every inch of you is relaxed and stress free as possible.

What you might not imagine is the opening scene to Ridley Scott’s Alien, your dressing gown is a cold space suit and you’re running through corridors avoiding aliens to find your 4.

That’s great, but I expect better when technology gets better., are we in fact in danger of loosing the very sanctity of what a spa treatments really are. Here is our pick of a selection of the most bizarre space age treatments and Spa’s online.

1) High tech body spa machines

This spa in Skopje has high tech body work machines that look just mini space pods from some sixties movie B movie.

2) The 3D pluri-sensorial dimension Spa

This is the Exedra Nice Hotel Wellness Centre in Nice. It is said to offer a “3D pluri-sensorial dimension never seen before,” I have no idea what that means, but it does look very nice (I wonder if they will place it in my Torquay self catering accommodation?)

3) The space age salon

This is a design concept for a new space age salon designed by Vizitiu Eduard, filled with transparent glass partitions, retro graphic art designs and walls that curve in on themselves. Spa breaks for space travellers, now there’s an idea.

4) Takeaway Spa hydro-fusion

This is a futurist spa that you can have in your own home; it is basically a huge bathing tube where the user gets; a hydrotherapy spa treatment with inbuilt hydro-fusion, aromatherapy and musical technology (it has nozzles that spray water, play music and smell nice).

5) The Spa shower system

This is the kind of phone booth that even superman wouldn not have minded changing in. OK, you got me, it’s a shower, but it is very pretty.

6) The Futuristic head massager

Come on, who would not mind looking like a Cylon from Battlestar Galactica in this futuristic head gear.
